The Literary Rap Throwdown project was when we read a book, my group read Freakonomics and the other group read The Bean Trees. After we read our books we had to write reviews on the book, I wrote a positive review while partner wrote the negative. After we did that we had to sit with the group we got put with and write lyrics. When all of that work was done we moved the project into Multimedia and began splitting work up into who does what. I got to be the costume designer which was finding the clothes for the characters to wear, making the backgrounds, and getting props.
These are most of the things I found or made for the Literary Rap
These are the lyrics to our rap video:
Name’s Levitt got a degree in Economics
Dubner and I wrote the book Freakonomics
I’ll teach you ‘bout why teachers wanna’ cheat
Like the sumos who don’t mind gettin’ beat
Taylor, your attempts at good parenting
Drugs are the only thing you’re guaranteeing
About messed up names I wrote a whole part
Guess “Turtle” shoulda’ been toppin’ my charts
Don’t talk about charts, I talk about life,
I’m young and strong, not a 50s housewife,
Just reaching for some opportunities
I’m searching for better communities
Then one day a baby came in my way
It turned out I wanted her to stay
Momma died, so many things have gone wrong
But it's all good when Turtle sings a song
Although life hasn’t been going to plan
I became friends with amazing Lou Ann.
No one cares she’s not as real as my facts
You need those to have a positive impact
Steven stop teaching kids about drugs.
At least my kid won’t be one of those thugs
Of our kids, who would have a better start?
With my education, my kids are smart
Abortion isn’t always the solution
your book’s just filling the air with pollution.
All you wanna’ talk ‘bout is the same stuff
The Bean Trees? Oh please?! You ain’t up to snuff
Your book is all about facts which is “wack”
You don't have any friends that have your back
Who needs friends when I’ve got education
All you’ve done is drive across the nation
Your book isn’t an accurate depiction
My book is economic non-fiction
All by myself I raised my daughter
you’re trying to tell me it doesn’t matter
Kingsolver’s biggest and greatest plan
is that we should “make things right as we can.”
