Over the past five weeks I have been thankful for Ernesto, he really helped me with a couple problem horses and taught me a few things that I would never have learned otherwise, Caitlynn, for being so helpful, understanding, and always answering my questions, and Nicole, for showing me what its like to be the boss of not one but three companies and showing me not only her hard work but letting me share in it. This entire experience has been an eye opener and I am thankful I had it before I go off to college and begin my adult life, I have learned a lot of things about business and about horses.
Prompt 2 During my time at Poway Trail Company I have not experienced many setbacks that have truly affected me until I met Sam. Sam is a horse that was left on the property by his original owner. My boss, Nicole, has decided to give him to me as a project horse while I am here. He has absolutely no manners and is extremely rude. Currently I am trying to train using Parelli training but in my personal opinion I am spectacularly failing. He does not care about anything and will not do something he doesn’t want to do. Next week I will be going outside with Nicole to work with him and hopefully overcome his attitude problem. Prompt 3 My high school education has in no way prepared me for working on a horse ranch. Even the administrative work I’ve been doing I learned from a previous office job I had. I am out in the sun all day cleaning stalls, working with horses, learning a new training style and doing whatever else I am asked to do around the office and ranch. My externship has been like a project at HTHI because I am always on a tight schedule. There is no time for messing around because I am working on my own project, a project for my boss, and the summer camps. Time management was something I had to learn fast because unfortunately some teachers like to plan everything out and not leave that up to the students. |
